Wylie students that are interested in the culinary arts now have a unique opportunity to pursue their passion while still in high school. On September 21st, Wylie Independent School District officially opened their new culinary arts wing in Wylie High School, a classroom and restaurant called the 544 Cafe. The masterminds behind the cafe, former Chef Shona McKinney and Chef Toni Sloane, have been planning and building the cafe for two years. This 7,000 sq ft culinary arts wing features a state-of-the-art kitchen that can accommodate up to 25 students. It has multiple ovens, pizza stones, griddles, and a specialized teacher demonstration suite. The dining area can seat up to 60 people at once, with additional outdoor seating available.
